WELCOME TO I.E.S. SAN MIGUEL
IES San Miguel is located in the south of Tenerife, in the town of San Miguel de Abona. Our “instituto”, as it´s refered to by spanish residents, consists of 450 students (with a wide variety of different nationalities from all over the world) and approximately 55 staff members. The school only opens in the morning, from 8:30 to 14:30 the age of the students goes from 12 to 16.
The school is relatively small, with a simple, open structure and it is painted yellow, giving the impression of illuminated walls. Its layout is unique, made up of a main building and an anexo building. Both are joined by a bridge.
Most of the classrooms have at least three large windows, allowing light and air to pass through. The tables are individual, making the organization of the classroooms easier. Most of the rooms are made up of desks in two and two, but this can be changed to individual desks or groups of five or six, depending on the teacher/subject. The classes range from twenty to thirty students with an exception of two clases of fiffteen.
The view is spectacular, as the school is surrounded by greenery and overlooks the sea. Tenerife’s famous mountains can be seen from the playground, covered in lush plants. The school itself is eco-friendly and fond of keeping the enviroment clean. Trees are clotted around the school itself alongside with gardens descending down to the football pitch which are cared for regulary.
